Forum: General Discussion

As you know, on youtube the "dj Bl3nd" his mixes are very nice and smooth but if you follow his twitter he takes a week to edit and fix things, when di's mix live do they just do as the best as they can, or do they pre-record there mix?

clearly you can't perform the same as live as when you take time to work on ONE mix.

for live performances i work in several ways:

if im just playing a club as the dj, then its all on the fly

if i've been booked to perform at a club, etc, etc as a performing dj then the whole set is worked out beforehand, cue points, loops etc, etc

i always record my mixes, mainly for appraising later.

for studio mixes, for cd production, i can take an hour to a month to complete them. but i use studio software, rather than live software.

Superstar DJs like Tiesto and Deadmau5 do use a large element of pre-recorded material, but it's their material to do as they please with. They do play with filters and effects on their mix live, but for the most part it's pre-recorded.

When I perform, everything is on the fly, that's just the way I operate. I always take requests and reading my audience into consideration when choosing my next track.

After I record a mix, I will then take some time to polish it in a production suite before it's available for download.

Hope that answers your question.

Pre-recorded mixes for live sets or performances, WOW.

If JMJ ever heard me do something like that in any kind of form or fashion, he'd come down from heaven and PIMP SLAP ME and I never met him in person!

Matter fact that ain't a DJ, that's a PRODUCER.

It's bad enough DJ's are joining record pools, just to borrow other DJ's Mashups!

That is like a recording star who lip syncs during a live show, because the world knows the little Simpson chick needs to T-Pain her songs!

Back in the day, they would say Shoot the DJ, get caught pulling a stunt like that today and you will get SHOT!

Don't mean to hit below the belt, but COME ON MAN. REALLY.

Its all on the fly unless its a Fashion or Talent show that needs specific tracks or vidz. I like to read the crowd, I have some routines or tracks that I mentally group together, but i can change the order or effects on the fly, ect. Nothing prerecorded here unless its from my ipod while i'm setting up.

Pre-Recorded = Producer. only exception is like my man said fashion show, wedding etc etc.

I wouldn't pay a DIME to see any of these so called super star djs unless it was a club setting . even then I'd have to think about it.

Tiesto was in Tdot a week ago and tickets were going for $85 bucks a pop. I didn't go but saw pics and video from the show. He turned a knob, fist pumped a bit, turned another knob, got both hands going, etc. All this happened while the fans were crammed into the arena like sardines.
